What to expect as a new client

Taking the first step toward better mental health can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Here is exactly how getting started with NCNE works.

A calm, private space set up for a telehealth psychiatric appointment

Four steps to your first visit

  1. Reach out

Book online or send a message. Share a few details about your symptoms, history, and goals so we can match you with appropriate care. We respond within two business days.

  2. Benefits check & paperwork

We verify your insurance benefits and review estimated costs with you before your first visit. Intake forms arrive by secure link.

  3. Your evaluation

A 60-minute video visit with Laura Gabriel, PMHNP-BC, to understand your history, current concerns, and goals — and to build a collaborative, evidence-based plan.

  4. Follow-up & adjustment

Focused follow-up visits to start, adjust, and monitor treatment, then ongoing maintenance as things stabilize.

What to have ready

  • A list of current medications and doses (including supplements)
  • Any psychiatric medications you have tried before — what helped, what did not
  • Your insurance card — most major plans are accepted (no insurance? see Insurance & Fees)
  • Your pharmacy's name and location
  • The names of your therapist and primary care provider, if you have them
  • A private, quiet place with a stable internet connection for the video visit

Questions about cost first? See Insurance & Fees. Never seen a psychiatric prescriber before? Read what to expect at your first evaluation. Wondering whether medication is even the right step? That is a normal question — the evaluation is where we answer it together, with no obligation to start anything.

If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For urgent emotional support at any hour, call or text 988(Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). Telehealth visits and this website are not an emergency service.

New-client questions

Who will I see?
Laura Gabriel, PMHNP-BC — a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with eight years of experience and the founder of NCNE. She provides every evaluation and follow-up visit herself; there is no rotating roster.
How do I get started?
Book an appointment online, or send a message through the contact form and we will respond within two business days. Share a few details about your symptoms, history, and goals so we can match you with appropriate care.
What happens at the first appointment?
A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation: your current concerns, history, past treatments (what helped, what did not), medical background, and what you are hoping for. You leave with a collaborative, evidence-based plan — which may or may not include medication.
What should I have ready?
A list of current medications and doses, any past psychiatric medications you remember, your insurance card, your pharmacy, and — if you have one — the name of your therapist and primary care provider.
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes — NCNE is currently accepting new adult clients.
